If you enjoy taking photographs then a wedding is a perfect opportunity to try out your skills. Here are some ideas for the amateur photographer at a wedding.

So you have been invited to a wedding. What a great opportunity to try out your photography skills. It is likely that the happy couple will have a professional photographer, so you do not want to compete in any way with them, and there will undoubtedly be plenty of amateur photographers snapping away. How can you make your photos stand out and be a welcome gift to the couple?

Amateur Wedding Photographer

Despite your enthusiasm and desire to get great shots, remember that you are not the professional photographer, so take special care not to get in his or her way. It can be very frustrating for the official photographer, who is tasked with ensuring he captures the day, if he or she constantly has other photographers trying to take photos at the same time. Not only is this taking up precious ,but other flashes can ruin lighting.

Wedding Photography Ideas

Get Candid Shots. Candid shots show real emotion; it's not posed and can tell a story about the people in the shot. Capturing a moment where the bride and groom catch each other's eyes can be very special, but you need to be quick. Equally there are many candid moments at a wedding; such as the mother of the bride making sure her daughter's dress is just right, or the bridesmaid making sure the mascara isn't running.

Capture the Action. There is so much happening at a wedding, and typically the Bride and Groom are so busy they can miss much of the action. This is where the amateur photograph can play an important role. They can photograph guests and all the activity that is happening around the wedding. Remember, not all photos have to include the happy couple.

Capture the Detail. Small things can trigger big memories, such as the confetti lying on the ground after the couple have left. Perhaps it's details of the cake, close-ups of the flowers, the mischief of little people when others aren't looking. While the professional photographer is focusing on the big events you can concentrate of the smaller details!

If you've been invited to a wedding, check first that the couple are happy to have amateur photographers taking photos. Some weddings prefer to only have the professional photographer. Remember that you're also a guest and the couple want you to enjoy the occasion as well, so sometimes put the camera away. Otherwise, there's lots to photograph at a wedding, so provided you are conscious that you've not in any way, you should have ample opportunity to take some great photos!
